Frequently Asked Questions

What does this tracker show?

Every commercial aircraft currently airborne that's operated by an airline rolling out Starlink WiFi. Markers come from live ADS-B data filtered against SeatWiFi's airline equipment database, then matched to a callsign and rendered on the globe in real time.

How often does the data update?

The tracker refreshes every 60 seconds. Aircraft positions, headings, altitudes and ground speeds are pulled from the OpenSky Network and rebuilt on the globe and in the flight list. The page also auto-rotates so you can see the full constellation of flights without panning.

Why might my flight not appear?

Aircraft must be transmitting ADS-B and within OpenSky's coverage to show up. Some regions (mid-ocean, parts of Africa, parts of Asia) have gaps. Aircraft that are still on the ground are filtered out, and the data lags real life by up to a minute. If your flight isn't here yet, it usually appears within a couple of refreshes once it climbs out.

Are all of these flights actually equipped with Starlink?

Honest answer: no — not every plane on this map has Starlink installed. These are flights operated by airlines that are rolling Starlink out across their fleet, but equipment is per-aircraft. To check whether a specific tail has Starlink installed today, use the airline data hub at /airlines/{code} or click through to the flight page for tail-by-tail verification.

What's the data source?

Live ADS-B positions come from the OpenSky Network, an open community-driven receiver network. Callsigns are matched against SeatWiFi's airline equipment database to filter for carriers with Starlink rollouts in progress. Coverage and accuracy follow OpenSky's terms — this is the same upstream data used by FlightRadar24-style trackers.
