Amex Platinum Free Delta WiFi: Eligibility & Activation (2026)

Since 2023, American Express Platinum cardholders (personal and business) get free WiFi on every Delta flight as a built-in card benefit. The catch: you must enroll your card with Delta SkyMiles and link it through the Amex benefits portal before your first flight.

Eligibility
Personal Platinum Card from American Express
Airlines covered
1 airline
Activation friction
10 min — one-time card link

What You Get

Free full-flight WiFi on every Delta-operated flight that has WiFi hardware installed. Speeds match whatever the onboard provider delivers — typically 10–40 Mbps on Viasat-equipped narrowbodies, faster on newer wide-bodies. This stacks with the standard SkyMiles free-WiFi benefit, so even without the Platinum perk you'd still get free Delta WiFi as a SkyMiles member — but the Amex link guarantees it without requiring you to log into a SkyMiles portal.

Eligibility
  • Personal Platinum Card from American Express
  • Business Platinum Card from American Express
  • Must have a Delta SkyMiles account (free) and link your Amex Platinum to it

How to Activate

  1. 1 Sign up for a Delta SkyMiles account at delta.com (free)
  2. 2 Add your Amex Platinum number to your SkyMiles profile under "Payment Methods" or via the Delta benefits page
  3. 3 On your first Delta flight, connect to "DeltaWiFi.com" and choose "Free WiFi with SkyMiles"
  4. 4 Enter your SkyMiles number — the Amex link is now persistent
  5. 5 On future flights the portal auto-detects you (or you enter the SkyMiles number again)

Gotchas

  • ! Delta Connect / Delta Shuttle regional flights operated by SkyWest or Endeavor may not have WiFi hardware — there's nothing to be free
  • ! Authorized users on a Platinum account are not always eligible — only the primary cardholder
  • ! Enrollment isn't automatic — you must explicitly link your Platinum card to your SkyMiles account
  • ! Doesn't apply to codeshare flights operated by partner airlines (Air France, KLM, Korean Air, etc.)
  • ! If Delta's SkyMiles free-WiFi program changes terms, the Platinum perk technically remains, but enforcement can be inconsistent at the captive portal

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Amex Platinum get you free Delta WiFi?

Yes. Personal and Business Platinum cardholders get free WiFi on every Delta-operated flight with WiFi hardware installed, after a one-time enrollment linking the card to a SkyMiles account.

Do I need to do anything to activate the Amex Platinum WiFi perk?

Yes — you must link your Platinum card number to your Delta SkyMiles account once. After that, free WiFi is automatic on every Delta flight.

Does Amex Gold or Amex Green give free Delta WiFi?

No. Only the Platinum tier (personal or business) gets the explicit Delta WiFi benefit. Gold, Green, and other Delta SkyMiles cards don't include it as a card-tied perk — but any SkyMiles member already gets free Delta WiFi without a card.

Does the Amex Platinum WiFi perk work on Delta partner airlines?

No. It only applies to Delta-operated flights (mainline + Delta Connect with WiFi hardware). Codeshares on Air France, KLM, Korean Air, Virgin Atlantic, and other partners are not covered.

Are Amex Platinum authorized users eligible for free Delta WiFi?

In practice, only the primary cardholder is reliably enrolled. Authorized users should check with Amex directly and confirm their card is linked to a SkyMiles account before relying on the perk.

Is free Delta WiFi worth getting an Amex Platinum?

Probably not on its own — every SkyMiles member gets free Delta WiFi for free. The Platinum is justified by lounge access, hotel credits, and travel insurance, with WiFi as a small extra. If WiFi is your only need, just sign up for SkyMiles.
